The sun is shining, it’s a lovely day, and the 10th anniversary of Avenue Q is only a few hours away! On July 31, the Tony-winning musical turns a decade old, and in honor of Avenue Q’s big birthday, we’ve been thinking about all of the fun friends we’ve met in the neighborhood. We asked you to vote for your favorite, from the very “special” Lucy the Slut to disgruntled superintendent Gary Coleman. Check out the results below!
1. Rod — 14%
Fans can’t get enough of Rod, the uptight Wall Street investment banker with a big secret. When he’s not trying to convince everyone in the neighborhood how much he loves “My Girlfriend Who Lives in Canada,” he’s listening to showtunes and secretly pining over his roommate Nicky. Rod goes through a transformation in Avenue Q and (spoiler alert!) finally comes out of the closet to his family and friends. His fans have clearly embraced Rod for who he is, and are proud that he’s finally living his life as a gay puppet.
2. Christmas Eve – 13%
Christmas Eve may be Japanese, but it doesn’t mean she isn’t at least “A Little Bit Racist” (come on, everyone is!). The aspiring therapist is also the resident relationship advisor on Avenue Q, and she offers lots of heartfelt advice about “ruv.” Whether she’s getting married to Brian in a wacky wedding dress or returning all of their wedding gifts for cash, Christmas Eve means business—and that’s why fans “ruv” her so much!
3. Kate Monster – 12%
Kate Monster is a kindergarten teaching assistant with big dreams: She wants to open up a Montessori school for monsters. She doesn’t have the best luck in love, but sparks (and mix tapes) are definitely flying between Princeton and this down-to-earth lady. Where would the Avenue Q gang be without Kate Monster and her big heart?
